CAPTAIN'S REPORT - APRIL 2023

The new season is nearly upon us and I am very excited to get out there, as I’m sure you all will be too. Having seen The Masters Tournament a few weeks ago, it has really got the golfing juices flowing. I want to wish everyone good luck for the season, and I hope you achieve what golfing goals you have set for yourself.

Congratulations to Garry Watson and Charlie Munday for winning this year’s Winter League. We had a great field and winning this event is never easy. Commiserations to Paul Arthurs and John Murtagh for coming in a close second after what was a well contested final, played in great spirits.

More congratulations must go to some of our Lady Members for their success in the Bradford Union Ladies Alliance that was held at our club on the 6th of April, at which Jane Middlebrook and Wendy Buckley won Division Two with 32 points. Contested over 16 holes, that is a fantastic score. Also, Pauline Nankervis and Sue Anderson came in Third Place in Division Three with a score of 25 points. Well done ladies, a great start to the year and long may the success continue moving forwards.

The Spen Challenge was hosted on Sunday the 16th of April. This is a match between Cleckheaton & East Bierley that takes place annually. We are very pleased to report that Cleckheaton won the trophy back this year. The team consisted of Morton Robinson, Bryan Schofield, Paul Clarke, Richard Carmichael, Ryan Metcalfe, Jamie Cox, Matt Hall & Rob Cole. Well played boys.

Thank you to the Ladies Section for their donation from their Easter Raffle towards the Captains & Presidents Charity this year, the MNDA (Motor Neurone Disease Association). That contribution is much appreciated. With regards to this charity, please keep your eyes peeled for a very special upcoming charity day that will be on Friday the 1st of September. More details are to follow, and it would be great to see some of you there supporting a great cause.

The clocks have gone forwards, the weather is turning for the better with warmer and dryer weather on the horizon. Let’s all have a great season…

Best Regards,

Adrian Jowett
