Pro-Am provides fitting send off as Mike Ingham retires

PGA professionals from across the UK headed-up 44 teams of
amateurs as Cleckheaton GC said farewell to Mike Ingham, their professional for
34 years, with a PGA pro-am on May 29.
Former Ryder Cup stars Tommy Horton and Brian
Waites were among many of Mike’s friends and colleagues who came to support the
former Button Boy who was one of the country’s longest serving club
professionals.
The event brought a victory from a home club team
“Greenwood’s Outsiders”. Ian Greenwood, David Peel and Ashley Sweeney who, with
Harrogate professional and teaching guru Bill Ferguson, returned a 12 under par
score of 128. In second place came the Moortown team of Bryon Hutchinson, Ian
Hartley, David Walker and John Boyd, with third spot going to a team from the
Northern Region of the PGA comprising Norman Fletcher, Jim Croxton, Roger Butler
and John Barnett, professional at Royal St David’s GC.
Andy Rhodes of Keighley took the first professional prize of £500
with a four under par 68 followed by former Cleckheaton assistant Robert Booth
and Richard Lane of Moor Allerton.
At a packed prize presentation Mike Ingham reflected on his years at
Cleckheaton and said how thrilled he was that so many people had travelled to
support him. It was great, he said, to see so many old friends from across the
years and the day was one he would long remember.
Warren Lockett appointed clubs new Golf manager
Cleckheaton Golf Club has appointed Warren Lockett as golf
manager to succeed Mike Ingham who retires in May after 34 years as the club’s
professional.

Lockett, aged 38, joins Cleckheaton from Woodhall Hills
Golf Club near Pudsey where he has filled a similar role since 1994.
A native of North Wales, Warren Lockett started his
training as a golf professional at Huddersfield Golf Club and qualified through
the PGA before moving on to become the professional at Lightcliffe Golf Club
near Halifax.
An accomplished player, he has 19 Yorkshire pro-am
victories to his credit and holds the course records at Woodhall Hills, Roundhay
and Dewsbury & District Golf Clubs.In 2006 he finished 10th in the
Wales PGA Order of Merit.
Married with two young children, Warren Lockett
lives in Huddersfield and takes up his new post at Cleckheaton on June 1st.
