CAPTAIN'S REPORT - NOVEMBER

This is my first report as your new Captain and what an honour it is to hold this position after being a member for over 45 years.

At the Gentlemen’s Dinner on Friday 11th November, I announced my new Vice Captain, Mr Stephen Passey. Stephen has been a member for over 21 years and is currently Handicaps Chairman and a serving Council member. I’m looking forward to working with Steve and wish him well in his year as Vice-Captain.

It’s a quiet period now for golf, but the greenkeepers are still doing a great job in keeping the course in excellent condition for the time of year. They have done sterling work in collecting leaves and together with volunteers, are also working hard to drain the fairways, which appears to be having a positive effect.

Myself and Mr P Lazenby have gone around all the greenside bunkers and made some remedial work to address the liners showing, hopefully you have seen a difference?

There is a new winter teeing area on the 17th which is a vast improvement on what was there in the past. A big thank you to member Mr Gary Watson for suppling and laying the Astro Turf.

Whilst on the subject of work on the course, I would like to thank all the volunteers for the work being done. You are doing an excellent job and making a big difference! (You know who you are!)

And finally, commiserations to the ladies on finishing runners-up in the final UK round of the Annodata trophy. The 5-lady team and caddies travelled to Glenbervie Golf Club in Scotland and played a very tense match, which finished 2.5 to 2.5. This meant a sudden death playoff was needed, but unfortunately we lost on the first playoff hole. Bad luck ladies, but you did Cleckheaton Golf Club proud.

Yours In Golf
