The Final News Report From Our Captain, Paul Arthurs.

CAPTAIN’S REPORT – SEPTEMBER

Dear Members

I would like to report the following for the season just gone by:

The Scratch Team have had an excellent year winning Division 1 for the fourth year in a row and a big thank you to Cec for his work as normal running the team, which this year certainly was a challenge, but show's that the club has depth. We have also received fantastic reports about the course over the year from our away opponents.

8-15 Team - Another good season which saw them get promoted to Division One. This year 14 players all contributed to the team's success. Special mentions go to Ian Horsley - played 4 won 4; Luke Thomas - played 5 won 4; and the player of the season Tom Lockwood - played 5 won 5.  Thanks also to the many other players who stepped up and represented the club in the various competitions and knockout events held this year. Also, congratulations to Rob Cole who won the 8-15 Knockout.

Rabbits got off to a good start but fell away towards the end, not by losing games but by getting half's which ended up them getting relegated from Division 1 by 1 point. They had a good run in all Union competitions but unfortunately did not bring the silverware home. This year saw them with their biggest friendly fixture list which brought in some excellent comments about the course and club. Rabbit Captain’s Day & President’s Day was a great success and produced one of the best raffles for the section in some years and the Car Park draw was also the biggest that the section has had.

Best Wishes to Mr Tony Hubbert who takes over as Rabbit's Captain and Mr David Holmes who will be Vice Captain.

Ladies Section. Congrats to all the ladies this year as they have won plenty over the year. The section is going from strength to strength. Special Congrats go to Jackie Barraclough who won the Ladies Bradford Championship at Keighley. The Ladies B team were runners up in the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association Inter Club final. The Ladies Annodata team won 4-1 Away at South Moor and are now getting down to the business-end of the competition. We will certainly keep you up to date with the next round fixture which should be a home tie.

Best Wishes to Sally Pegg who takes over from Alison as Lady Captain and congratulations to Helen Lambert who will be Sally's Vice Captain.

Seniors team completed their season with a playing record of P16 W10 H2 L4. 28 players represented our club in those 16 games and our season concluded with our annual away day on 13th September, when 36 players enjoyed a day at Woolley Park Golf Club, with Jim Clark picking up the main individual prize , with other individual & team prizes awarded. Again, our course has been highly acclaimed throughout the season by the away teams and the Seniors look forward to renewing old acquaintances in 2023.

Finally, I would like to thank all the Council Members and especially YOU the membership of Cleckheaton & District GC for your support and making my year as Captain one that will stay with me forever. It has been a pleasure to play with so many of you and apologies that I did not get a game with all of you. I certainly have enjoyed every minute out there chasing that little white ball with you.

I would also like to thank the Bar staff, Lee & Jack who do a wonderful job in the Pro Shop, Secretary Dave and the biggest for me is Paul Sykes and the Greens staff. They have presented the course yet again in a wonderful condition and the comments internally and externally we have received over the year is something we as a club should be proud of and I hope we carry this on into next year for Adrian.

Again, a big thank you for supporting my Captain’s Charity MacMillan Cancer Support. I will let you know what we have raised shortly, but again, it show's what a truly amazing membership we have.

The only other thing I have left to say is I hope that Vice-Captain Mr Adrian Jowett enjoys his year as much as I have.

Best Wishes Captain
Paul Arthurs
