Q1. A player makes a stroke while holding an umbrella over their head. What is the ruling?

A.      The player is disqualified
B.      The player gets the general penalty
C.      There is no penalty

Rule 10.2b(5) A player is allowed to protect themselves against the elements by wearing protective clothing or by holding an umbrella over their head, but the player may not accept such protection from anyone else.

Q2. In strokeplay, a player played from outside the teeing area and hit the ball out of bounds. They go to correct the mistake by playing another ball from the correct teeing area. What is the ruling?

A.      The player’s corrective stroke from the teeing area will be their third.
B.      The player’s corrective stroke from the teeing area will be their fourth.
C.      The player’s corrective stroke from the teeing area will be their fifth.

Rule 6.1b The player gets only two penalty strokes. The ball played from outside the teeing area was not in play, so the fact that it went out of bounds is irrelevant and the stroke itself did not count.

Q3. In a singles match, a player concedes her opponent’s next stroke, picks up her opponent’s ball and returns it by rolling it to her opponent along the putting surface. What is the ruling?

A.      Loss of hole
B.      One stroke penalty
C.      There is no penalty

As the player’s action was not for the purpose of testing the putting green and instead, was out of courtesy, there is no penalty for testing under rule 13.1e. See interpretation 13.1e/1.
